Apart from the different activities of UPAYA today we are focusing on especially the empowerment and capacity building of the rural tribal women. The women are grouped into small Self Help Groups. We have taken up two blocks namely Rajgangpur and Lathikata. We have about 125 SHGs in two blocks. The members of the SHGs exposed to different training programme on health & hygiene, social, political, economic, educational problems and issues of the villages. In order to empower them economically, we imparting different training programme on income generating activities such as pickle making, mushroom growing, sewing and designing. Through the groups we are teaching them to be independent from the men folk by saving some fixed amount in the group. Now the members have taken up certain petty businesses from the saving. The saving is also is used for advancing loan for the emergency purposes to the members. In this way we are trying to breed the business community in the tribal society.
Awareness Building
From 2002 UPAYA has started to fight for the clean environment especially, campaigning against the pollutant Sponge Iron Factories in the district.
Skills Training
Another one of the main activities of UPAYA is the skill development of the youth by imparting training programme on different trades. Presently following are the skills training programme going on:
- Driving
- Poultry keeping
- Fabrication
- Almirah making
Land Development & Agriculture
Wherever the Lift Irrigation Projects are still continuing, UPAYA is supporting the poor farmers for land development as well as for procuring seeds and fertilizer.
